About Equinix Cloud Provider's Search Application

Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric™ connects distributed infrastructure and digital ecosystems on Platform Equinix™ via global, software-defined interconnection. Available across 30+ locations, ECX Fabric is designed for scalability, agility and connectivity over a self-service portal or API. It brings together cloud service providers and users, enabling them to establish affordable, private, high-performance connections within Platform Equinix.

I led the development of the data search web application that simplifies how international customers and users search for regional cloud providers by location and type of connection.

Defining the Problem

The ECX Fabric cloud providers search application was built for internal sales teams along with current and prospective customers. The sales team was manually maintaining and updating excel spreadsheets as the data source for the different available providers. This was difficult to easily show users what options they have available to them. The sales team requirements for the web application were:

  • Have automatic updates to the dataset

  • Be able to search by one or more providers

  • Show providers by location - region and country

  • Show type of connections (local and remote)

  • Show how many connections for each type

  • Optimized for easy and visually pleasing printing for customer meetings

The Process

Our team was comprised of a Principle UX Designer, Senior UI Designer and Front-End Developer, Back-End Developer, and Lead Content Strategist. We worked in partnership with members from the Product Marketing and Sales teams. Our process included:

  • Discovery Phase - data/requirements gathering, user research

  • UX Design - the designers worked in partnership with the developers to design wireframes with a great user experience while also creating a technically viable product

  • UI Design - the visual designer brought the wireframes to life with images and color that fit within Equinix brand guidelines

  • Development - the front-end and back-end team worked together to build out the functionality

  • Launch and Testing - we went through several quality assurance tests before and post-launch

  • Post-Launch Testing and Enhancements - we used HotJar and Google Analytics to test and improve how users were interacting with the application

The Result

After launch, testing, and improvements, the search application is now utilized as a global sales tool that leads to five-figure deals with new customers.
